Job Description:

ABOUT CITIZEN PILATES

Citizen Pilates is Houston's premier boutique Reformer studio, operating across three locations with more than a decade of continuous growth. We are not a franchise. We do not sell a lifestyle concept. We have built an actual company with real structure, real standards, and real careers for the professionals who represent it. Our instructors are the business. We invest in training, compensation, and career development because we understand that consistency in the room begins with stability behind it. Citizen has remained Houston's longest-standing boutique fitness company because we hold a high standard and maintain it. That standard is what our clients return for, and it is what we hire for.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a career-track teaching role within a structured, high-accountability operation. Citizen is currently hiring both full-time and part-time instructors. Full-time instructors teach 23 to 25 classes per week, while part-time instructors commit to a consistent schedule of 6 to 10 classes per week. Part-time compensation is hourly and based on experience.

You will join the team at one or more of our three Houston locations, inherit established time slots with loyal client rosters, and teach inside a professionally operated studio where standards are consistent and expectations are clear. Citizen's founder, Jess Schindler, remains one of the studio's lead instructors and personally oversees instructor development. Every person who joins the team receives free training through The Citizen Method. You will be coached, evaluated, and developed with the same level of rigor we bring to the client experience.

    Salary: $55,000–$60,000 annually
Benefits: Medical and dental — 100% employer covered

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead energizing, client-focused Reformer Pilates classes that deliver results and build loyalty across an established client base
  • Arrive prepared and on brand for every class by managing the room, the pace, the transitions, and the client experience from the moment you walk in
  • Maintain studio standards consistently, including setup, breakdown, and all operational protocols between classes
  • Receive, apply, and grow from direct feedback from leadership, from clients, and from your own ongoing evaluation of your performance
  • Adapt your energy and delivery across varying class times and client demographics while maintaining a consistent standard of instruction
  • Contribute to a professional team culture grounded in accountability, preparation, and shared commitment to the Citizen client experience

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Citizen hires on character and operating discipline first. A Reformer Pilates certification is not required to apply. We train our own instructors at no cost through the Citizen method, and some of our strongest team members came to us from entirely outside the fitness industry. What we cannot train is the foundation we need you to arrive with. The right candidate demonstrates the following regardless of professional background, certification, or years of experience:
  • A track record of reliability. You are someone your current employer and clients can depend on without management. You show up prepared, you follow through, and you hold yourself accountable for outcomes.
  • The ability to lead a room. You have managed the attention, energy, and expectations of a group under pressure. Whether that room was a classroom, a dining room, a sales floor, or a studio, you know how to command it and how to recover when something gets away from you.
  • A client-first orientation. Your instinct is to make the experience excellent for the person in front of you. You define a successful interaction by their outcome, not your performance.
  • Comfort with structure and standards. You understand that consistency is what creates trust. You do not experience a well-defined operating system as a constraint; you recognize it as the foundation that makes excellent work repeatable.
  • The discipline to receive and implement direct feedback. This role requires constant refinement. You take feedback without defensiveness, apply it, and return stronger. The humility to learn and the pride to execute are both present in how you work.
  • Candidates with prior Reformer Pilates experience or certification are welcome to apply. Candidates from teaching, nursing, hospitality, operations, and other high-accountability service environments are equally encouraged. We will evaluate every application on the same criteria.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

All new instructors complete Citizen's in-house training program before taking their own classes. Training is free and fully compensated. It covers The Citizen Method, studio operations, client management, and the standards that define The Citizen Experience. The timeline varies by prior experience, but every instructor earns their classes, and every instructor has a clear path to them. Long-term instructors here have built genuine careers with tenure, stability, and real leadership opportunity across a studio that has grown consistently for over a decade. The instructors who grow here are the ones who never stop raising their own standard.

HOW TO APPLY

Submit your application and resume using the link below. A current resume is required. Cover letters are welcome but not required. Qualified candidates will move through a multi-stage evaluation process that may include a structured questionnaire, a video submission, and a live conversation with our leadership team. Finalists are invited to experience the studio firsthand. We are looking for specificity and honesty at every stage. If Citizen sounds like the environment you have been looking for, we look forward to hearing from you.
